The Coming of the Demobamic Party
May 8, 2008 6:25 PM Subscribe
Meet the Democratic Party of Barack Obama: It is training organizers and registering voters in 50 states. It has an online community pushing towards 10 million people. It will be able to bring in millions of dollars for its chosen congressional candidates with a single e-mail blast. It knows how to get its message out over YouTube but it refuses to talk to progressive blogs. It has purportedly told major donors to stop giving to outside progressive political groups. It will shift the focus of the Democratic Party from bubbas to cultural creatives, from the DLC to technocratic wonks, and from identity silos to goo goos. Progressive Democratics should trust, but verify.

It looks like an interesting blog, but I don't really see how the links you provide relate to the text you give.

"Outside" of what? And purported by whom?

Looking at them isn't enough. You have to read them. If you did that, you'd see that the fpp text is taken directly the linked articles.

So, despite how you've chosen a grand total of three pages from the same blog, this is still a blog link, and it's ... not that great.

This is my first post, and I've had Metafilter as my home page since 2000. I just became a member. Anyway, you all are a tough crowd, I'll never go anywhere else, just letting you know. As for Obama. I my best Vinny Barbarino voice: I love this guy!! peace.

The [Obama] campaign also circulated negative press reports about Women's Voices Women's Vote, implying voter suppression.
Um, hate to break it to the author of the linked piece, but "Women's Voices Women's Vote," an ostensibly Democrat-supporting group, did indeed use disgustingly misleading and deliberate vote suppression robocalls and mailings in 11 states, including mine, during the primary. They got slammed by multiple state attorneys general, including mine, who's still investigating to decide whether or not to press charges.
The Institute for Southern Studies has been looking very carefully at the group, and was the first to break the story of the larger pattern of illegal and misleading mailings and calls across multiple states.
So using the Obama campaign use of "negative press reports" of that group's activities as some kind of evidence of an evil conspiracy to freeze out grassroots participation is so bone-headed it defies description.

Come on, Flex, you KNOW that MetaFilter has become an Obama-free zone! This is where political addicts go for supervised withdrawal! Lotsa O-man fanboys and fangrls here, but this is where we go for a CHANGE of atmosphere.

Bad FPP, deceptive poster. But worst of all, this is assuming that Obama is the nominee, which is not at all clear. Hillary may have lost in votes and delegates, but until we know to whom the army is loyal, she still has a chance to effect a coup.
