I'm sorry, but who am I speaking to now?

I'm sorry, but who am I speaking to now? At the risk of turning Mefi into PopBitch, UK chart toppers 'Atomic Kitten' appeared on the BBC's rolling news radio station FiveLive this afternoon and proved that despite all the ex-DJs who are working on the station, they should stay well away from anyone who's appeared in the old Gallup top 40. To hear this stunning (as in stunningly embarassing) interview, click here and then click the little speaker icon next to 'Listen to the Kittens and Fi' - sorry but it's Real Audio only. Be quick. Don't know how long it'll be there.

(Non Brits ignore this. It will make no sense.)

Mwahahaha, Atomic Kitten think they're in a different league to the Sugababes? Sawwry, but no way. They're both just pop groups.

Of course, this is an appallingly bad interview, but just shows more of what the BBC is putting out on its radio stations lately. Radio 4's interviews have taken a major turn for the worst lately, with the interviewers having absolutely no understanding of the topics they're raising.

Now, Radio 5..? I couldn't insult my intelligence enough to move quite that far down the scale.

To be honest, Chris Moyle's interviews on Radio 1 are more intellectual than this..!

Oh, by the way, I'm glad that Atomic Kitten were brave enough to discuss the whole issue of royalties and the money they earn. It's good to hear someone slagging off the producers and writers from time to time.

You should try living with it - in fact you should try living with all of British TV - BBC America is hardly representative.

I am with listless on the living with it aspect. I lived in the UK for 2 years. The radio in my car was useless, and after having viewed television at a friends house I never even bothered to get one. They make you pay a tax to own one, and there is nothing on to boot. I spent as much of my 2 years on my K1100RS roaming the countryside. Now that was fun.

Cheers to all the BMWUK motorcycle club members

Well the BBC is unique, and personally, I think it does a pretty good job.
Sure, there's BBC output that I don't like, but that's always going to be the case, but there's some very good sports coverage on Radio 5Live, which I think you'd struggle to beat on any other radio station worldwide. The anchors and presenters do a fine job of covering many many sports events in a single afternoon, and it's enjoyable to listen to.
I do think the presenter Fi Glover is terrible, at least she's only presenting her tat show as a stopgap measure anyway, until Simon Mayo gets up an running at 5Live.

On a side note to feelinglistless:

man, I've been watching you posting links to MeFi every day for the last few days (actually the whole nine days that passed...). Just relax a little. You're a relatively new member (judging from your usernumber - not that this means anything of course) and you may be excited about MeFi, but take it easy. Nobody likes this thing that begins to happen here, where people start posting links like crazy (and we end up having 20 links per day, geez!). I'm sure you find very cool links while surfing the web, but are they all worth mentioning here?

Just a friendly piece of advice - please don't take it personally. This community was (and will be?) about quality, not quantity. If we want quantity we go to Plastic.com, where people who submit links frequently, also take part in a bloody karma contest (hmm...).

williamtry: But Radio 5 isn't on FM.. hence, I don't listen to it. (That said, I used to listen to Talk Radio until it became a crappy sports station)

a3matrix: You really have to pay to get good TV in the UK. If you get digital satellite (at least $15/$20 a month) then you can get hundreds of DVD-quality channels, including at least 30 movie channels, 4 different MTVs, etc etc.
