The fireworks struck me as being extremely CG-looking right when I saw them.

I called this one as I was watching it with my girlfriend. Ask her. She'll vouch for me.

I haven't read the links yet, but yeah, I agree you'd have to be totally nuts to spend $7,000 on speaker cables.

A fake show of unity, that's nice. They have problems with various ethnic groups, so they don't involve them, but they pretend that it's all good by having children dress as those ethnic groups and pretend to be one big happy family.
China is overly concerned with appearing pure as the undriven snow, but everything they are doing shows just how dirty it is under the surface.

I wouldn't be surprised if the they had the "Dalai Lama" representing them in the 100m dash.

The West's cries for "ethics" in their entertainment here seems to be motivated by something other than a concern for authenticity.
Of course it's not, it's the same as the brouhaha over the Chinese gymnasts who some think aren't 16- we're just mad somebody else figured out how to get away with it.

That first 'Previously' link goes to a thread that's still open... I can't get as outraged by fakery in theater as fakery in other contexts.

"Vice President Wang" [RACIST]
Question though: As a result of all this fakery on the part of China, how many Iraqi civilians have died?

I never really expected them to get children from all of the ethnic groups, yet, so this doesn't particularly surprise me.
It is sort of like expecting all actors to come from the country they are represented as being from (in the play or film or etc), along the lines of what plexi said.

They never tried to claim the fireworks were real in that cinematic shot. And during the ceremony, the fireworks were real. They just couldn't shoot it live.

Now wait just a god-damned minute here. Is the article actually suggesting that a prolonged act of theatre employed some sort of trickery for the sake of entertainment? Next you'll be telling me Barishnikov wasn't actually once a wooden nutcracker. Looks like The Independent just got itself deleted from my browser history!
