McCain-Palin Myths

100 percent truth? Politico inventories McCain's biggest whoppers, while Rolling Stone lists the myths of Sarah Palin.
This post was deleted for the following reason: pretty thin political post we've seen dozens of times before -- mathowie
THE MYTH: "She's from a small town with small-town values." — Fred Thompson, convention speech
THE FACTS: Wasilla and the surrounding valley recently named the meth capital of Alaska, with 42 meth labs busted in a single year.

This isn't fair and balanced unless it includes the mythic whoppers of Obama. With pickles.

This isn't fair and balanced
What? This is fox news? Paid for or uses public resources?
Plenty of places on the Internet that would not be considered 'fair and balanced' - so what fart stuck crossways makes you post 'this isn't fair and balanced' here, now and on this topic?

Yes, a single-link YouTube, Geeky Cakes (or whatever) post would have been vastly preferable.

You do realize that "fair and balanced" means "the truth from both sides" not "an equal number of bad things about both sides, whether true or not" right?

Doesn't matter if it's "Fair", this just isn't NEWS. Any MeFi reader with a functioning frontal lobe has seen all this before and understand what it means. Now if you can find anything Cain & Unable have thrown at us in the last few weeks that ISN'T a lie, that would be NEWS.

These myths about Sarah Palin aren't very good myths. I quote Wikipedia:
The word mythology (from the Greek μυθολογία mythología, meaning "a story-telling, a legendary lore") refers to a body of folklore/myths/legends that a particular culture believes to be true and that often use the supernatural to interpret natural events and to explain the nature of the universe and humanity.
I have yet to hear of the true extent of Palin's supernatural powers and how her presence at this moment in the space/time continuum elevates the universe and humanity.

The myths of John McCain and Sarah Palin:
John McCain was a lumberman who cut timber from the Mississippi shoreline to the California coast in one fell swoop. After such an arduous task, he feasted on a meal of two hundred bowls of cereal, brought to him on the backs of cherubs from the heavens above. Afterward, he napped for 150 years. He awoke with an amazing headache. The pain was unbearable. He grabbed his trusty axe and split his head open, from which Sarah Palin leaped out, resplendent in a full suit of armor.
"Come with me, my child," McCain uttered. "With my axe and your spear, we will right the wrongs of this country."
"For truth, justice, and the American way, AMEN," Palin responded.
God bless America.

Not that I'm voting for a guy who looks like Darth Vader without his mask, but are we to believe that Obama/Biden has never lied?

Uh, guys, the FIRST LINK mentions several lies and false promises Barack Obama made - it just also makes the thesis that McCain's lies are worse. Read the articles.

I'm really tired of all this crap. Neither candidate seems to be willing to face the reality of the situation: we have spent far more than we have. Cut taxes??? Spend more on X, Y and Z??? You must be kidding me.
Sorry, didn't sleep very well.

This fair and balanced crap in the media is a joke. No media is going to be fair and balanced. For every the glass is half full said all cheery and happy, there will be a the glass is half empty said with doom and gloom. For anyone to claim they are fair and balanced is a lie. For fox to report it's one sided pro republican news and say it is fair and balanced is wrong. I hate it when republicans bring fox up like it is the ultimate news source and then discredit other sources that make an anti-republican report. This double standard talk is really getting old. What ever happened to the truth is the truth regardless if it makes you look bad? If McCain did something then later said that he never did that.... (say it with me here) He Is Lying... If Palin (in all of her knowledge and wisdom) did something then later said she never did that.... again she is lying. There is no need to say "But that's mean and not Fair and Balanced!" If the facts are there then guess what, it is the truth which is fair and balanced. Quit arguing over 1 + 1 = 2. If you do something... live up to it. I can't stand the republican "No we are never wrong, blame the democrats" attitudes. Never in my life have I ever met such a bunch of selfish, help themselves, stuck up, rose colored glasses wearing, never manning up for something they did wrong, group of people... .EVER! I can't wait til this election is over so we can go back to pretending we are all friends again.

Myth number 1: McCain is a man of the people.
The Truth: McCain is actually a manatee.
Myth number 2: Palin is a wilfully ignorant redneck psychopath
The Truth: Her neck isn't red.

Look, politicians lying, I'm not suprised there. The fucking winks terrified me. It's like hey -- I know you're a used car salesman, why do you have to explicitly show that behavior to me?
If she was going for endearing, I hope it worked on some people, 'cause for me it went to creep factor 11.

A list long enough to crash metafilter could be generated with reality that needs 'a face'n donja know deh hey,
The maverick-y thing to do would be to point them out. Why maverick? Because the pols who do say thinks like 'there is an energy problem, put on a sweater' or 'that actor is spending us into the poor house - so we need balanced budgets' or 'dump fiat currencies' or even ag talk about chickens and their roosting habits is shown by history to not be a vote getter.
