Punchy but relaxed

Vent your frustrations! Punch a clown! Or punch McCain! Or punch Obama! If you can't kick the dog then at least you can smash some plates. Oooh. I feel better just posting this.
The last video was taken at the Smash Shack in San Diego, where people pay to throw dinnerware at a wall. This new business seems to be doing very well.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Smash Shack is bordering on interesting -- though there's not a whole lot of web content on that front, even -- but this post is not so great on the whole and OH GOD TEN MORE DAYS TEN MORE DAYS TEN MORE DAYS -- cortex
Please include warnings about loud obnoxious unnecessary jump out of your skin sound tracks. Jeez. Not funny enough to compensate.

The flash stuff - punch McCain or Obama - is admittedly pretty stupid, with admittedly stupid soundtracks (er, the same soundtrack).
At the Smash Shack, they let you bring in your own MP3 player so you can smash plates to the sounds you like. I kid you not.

I'm disappointed that the punches have no visible effect.

Political posts and however we might feel about them not withstanding, this is a collection of very poor links. Come on now.

This Smash Shack thing seems very America. Buy shit you don't need, destroy it for no reason, but make sure you wear an embarrassing amount of protective gear while doing so.

Jeez, have there ever been two candidates running for the office of president easier to caricature than these guys? Compare: Melting-head alabaster beady-eyed hawkman and big-ears skinny boyish McEyebrows. There's NO EXCUSE for bad cartooning this election cycle. Lazy designer, shame on you and your immediate family!

I think the problem is that if the caricatures are too accurate, and the Flash involves hitting them, then the Secret Service will come to your house.

Didn't Ray Bradbury predict the Smash Shack in Farenheit 451? Or was it Burgess in A Clockwork Orange? All my dystopian novels are running together.

No, you're thinking of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Why can't we punch Palin? I noticed at the bottom of the page there was a link to a punch Hillary flash thingy. I demand equal punching!

Holy fuck what has become of Metafilter.
I just think Metafilter has become more subtle.
Implicit in the potential of the multi-link post (currently unique, pretty much, to Metafilter) is the opportunity to create sentential structures that include multiple hyperlinks. These structures enable an interpretive paradigm that extends semantics beyond the conventions of earlier literacy.
In the example in question, relatively crude reference points are combined to convey a deeper semantic intentionality not afforded by more overt language usage.
If the reader does not combine the reference points then it may appear that the referents are merely crude instances (your "Holy fuck" could be, itself, cited as an example). But if the post is parsed completely then more sublime meanings may emerge.
Or not.

I actually kind of like the idea of the Smash Shack, but those prices are too rich for my blood. Couldn't they get, say, some cheap terracotta plant pots instead of using fancy sushi plates? Or let you bring your own stuff, and just charge by the minute or something?
Although the glowing testimonials—"I've never had so much adrenaline in my life"; "I have always wanted to do this"—make me think that the Shack's patrons need to get out more. (Then again, that may be why they need the Smash Shack in the first place.) I mean, throwing a dozen plates against a wall in a safe, sanctioned manner is pretty tame in the "wanton destruction" department. Weren't these people ever teenagers?

No, see, by linking to a jpg of a blow-up clown knock 'em down, you don't transcend or interpret paradigms or do anything with semantics. You just waste people's time. There's nothing sublime about you not understanding Metafilter.
