Indonesia's Papua province plans to tag AIDS sufferers with RFID chips. "Under the bylaw, which has caused uproar among human rights activists, patients who had shown "actively sexual behavior" could be implanted with a microchip to monitor their activity, lawmaker John Manangsang said."
This is terrible

Mods, could you please add a period or something to the end of the FPP before I lose my shit? Thanks in advance.

Why are people so freaked about AIDS specifically? Where's the Hep C love, for instance?

It's a simple technology. A signal from the microchip will track their movements and this will be received by monitoring authorities,"
I'm confused, how would this technology work exactly? So if someone started hip thrusting the air would that set the sensor off?

Coincidentally, I was just reading about how a chunk of conservative Americans still believe "heterosexual HIV/AIDS" is a myth. Absolutely bizarre.

Is this like in Buffy when Spike had the chip in his head and when he got violent it would go off? Or do Papuans walk around with scanners to zap motential lovers?

RFIDs cannot determine if someone is having sex or not. Also, I don't believe that there are any implantable RFIDs that can be tracked via satellite. This plan is not well thought out.

So Papua is covered by a sufficiently dense network of RFID readers to track the movements of chipped people? Seems unlikely

... a chunk of conservative Americans...
A chunk of Conservative Americans are dumb as dog shit. It's not that bizarre. Something like 20% of Americans still think Bush is doing a good job. And there are people who want Palin to run in 2012.
Also, this story is kind of crazy. I'm not sure how they would actually monitor these people.

Riiight. Looks great on paper, execution will be terrible. And how will these RFID chips work? Is everyone going to be supplied with RFID scanners, to check if their potential sex partner has a chip in them?
