Really, Guys, I Really Didn't Suck as President, See?

With a eponysterical filename of "legacybooklet.pdf," witness the newly published government document Highlights of Accomplishments and Results of the Administration of George W. Bush. DID YOU KNOW ... the United States Afghan economy has tripled since 2001? DID YOU KNOW ... the increase in torture defense spending is the largest increase since the Truman Administration? If that's too long (or nauseating) a read, try perusing 100 Things Americans May Not Know About the Bush Administration Record.

I don't like doing this, but this seems a lot more like a blog post and not much like the sort of stuff that belongs as an FPP.

Second link, number 1:
KEPT AMERICA SAFE
For more than seven years after September 11, 2001, prevented another attack on our homeland.

I know this has emotional resonance for people, but this has always seemed like a weird thing to claim, since the one exception is pretty damn horrific (Other than ignoring the PDB about Bin Ladin wanting to attack within the US, and continuing to read "My Pet Goat" while Americans were dying, didn't W do a great job keeping us safe?). And, of course, for all we know, we could have had the most bumbling, incompetent President in the history of the Union and still not had any more attacks. (As a matter of fact....) It's hard to score a game when you don't know if anyone else is playing.

the increase in defense spending is the largest increase since the Truman Administration?

This reminds me of the "reference generator" on the Dilbert comic site. It uses phrases like: "his contribution to this organization cannot be estimated"; "his tenure here demonstrates the importance of proper screening for new hires"; "he has been seen dropping in at odd hours"; "he has never been caught napping"; and "he is peerless when compared to his co-workers".

You're peerless when compared to former American presidents, President Bush.

This would be a good post if it wasn't for the asshattery editorializing.

I skipped straight to the "100 things" document - which I read for about 5 minutes waiting for the punchline, assuming that it was supposed to be a joke until I checked the URL. I really enjoyed their use of capital letters though, which had me giggling every time I saw a sentence like : "Created Institutions to Propel the Spread of Democracy Worldwide, Helped Oppressed People Secure their Freedom"

Um...did you happen to read the tiny type under the word "MetaFilter" in the logo?
