Gratuitous (adj.): unnecessary and unwarranted.

So, you know, it's not exactly false advertising.

Something's wrong with the link. It's some really long C-SPAN video. Doesn't say anything about a book being read by anybody.

It would be even cooler if Arcade Fire were playing quietly in the background.

It is a great book but it's only COINCIDENCE that it's about to become an even greater, economy-stimulating movie, right?

Sorry, I meant AMIRITE??!?!?!?

Interesting that Michelle then reads from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, the favorite storybook of Republicans worried about greedy "Welfare Queens" and foolish "entitlement programs." Not sure what to make of that.

I think it's kind of racist of me, but I sort of hoped that right when the book says "let the wild rumpus start" there would be a hip hop riff and Obama would do a little dance like on def comedy jam.

I'm not advocating this thread be deleted. But I would like to see the adoring hero worship of Obama go away.

Don't get me wrong: I gave him money, I spent a month volunteering for him full time. I'm glad he's President, given the alternatives.

But Obama needs to be re-reading the Constitution, and the briefs being filed by his own Department of Justice, the ones that go even further than the Bush DOJ did in claiming that presidential authority trumps the Constitution. Those unconstitutional DOJ opinions are where the wild things are.

He needs to making sure that in all the Wall Street bailoits, we're getting our money worth, and not ripped off again by the same group of con artists.

We aren't helping the country, or Obama, when we let his personal charisma lead us to winking and nodding when he does very things that we rightly excoriated Bush for doing.

Cutesy photo-ops with adorable kids adoring our charming President, yeah, its great that he can dramatically read Where the Wild Things Are, but that's not why I sacrificed to help put him in office.

Just watching the president reading the book upside down (to show the kids the pictures) just added to my respect for his being so cool.

Just for context, last year, Bush shouted greetings to the kids from the Whiite House balcony, dispatching his family and co-workers to do the actual reading. From Huffington Post:

Jenna Bush selected three children from the audience to act out the story "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak while she read. She encouraged them to roar, roll their eyes, gnash their teeth and show their claws in time with the story's action.

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman and a number of Bush administration Cabinet secretaries were also scheduled to read stories. A popular band - the Jonas Brothers - performed the national anthem.

"Okay, I was being a bit sarcastic with the choice of words, but why are you hating on it? I thought it was cool, and a bit of an insight on how the White House is doing PR now. Seriously - what did I do wrong with bringing this to your attention?"

Because the logic behind it goes: OMG, Obama likes something that I like! I really like it! Let's tell everyone!

It's not even newsfilter, it's the sort of shit you post to your twitter feed and forget ten minutes later. There's not even anything to discuss, and that's the thinnest metric of keeping a post around.

YA, WE ALL LIKE SENDAK. So fucking what?

Dude, every time he read a book, the World Trade Center was blown up. What do you expect?

I think my favorite part is the kids yelling at the leader of the free world to show them the pictures.

Also: "It's like a dragon-lookin' Wild Thing." Awesome.
