This page (on Sam Brown's great explodingdog site) lists links to web pages displaying red robots*. I love sites that post artwork and then ask other people to create variations on that artwork. My favorite example used to be the Digital Doodlebox, but that site is, alas, closed. Anyone know any other sites like this?
*warning:self-link burried somewhere in the red-robot page.
Yes, there's a site I found yesterday which made me split my sides. It gives you a variety of comic strips with empty bubbles and face expressions, and you fill them in and get them added to their site's gallery.
Go make your own! http://www.kiddonet.com/kiddonet/comicsPlatform/index.html
Even though it's meant to be a kid's site.. there's some rather odd (and hilarious) entries in the gallery.

Oh man, you're right, Sam's drawings have been a little unsettling of late. The "HELP! my boss hates me" series was downright frightening. I dont know if he came up with the title or not but either way I hope things get better for him

wackybrit, there's a similar (and more adult) version of the cartoon thing called the toonery (by the creator of 16color.com, a really fun animation site).
Maybe Sam's downturn was caused by his move to New York. I can relate.

Gridcosm is a site where artists continually build off of each other's existing work. The format is a bit different than what you've described, but you might find it interesting anyway.

moz, that's a nice way of interpreting the story. I thought I'd have a go too.
I think sam was attacked by a zombie, they had a big fight, then they both got high, and eventually the zombie had to go back to its home planet. Then, of course, sam felt lonely and went nuts.

i've been kind of worried about Sam for a few months now. read the archives and you get a sense of whimsy, of a different view.
lately he's been putting out a lot of drawings like this.
i wonder if it speaks to something personal he may be going through. i hope not, cause it doesn't seem good.
