8 Million ways To Die

8 Million Ways to Die (1986) Starring Jeff Bridges, Rosanna Arquette, directed by Hal Ashby, cowritten by Oliver Stone. "Scudder is a detective with the Sheriff's Department who is forced to shoot a violent suspect during a narcotics raid. The ensuing psychological aftermath of this shooting worsens his drinking problem and this alcoholism causes him to lose his job, as well as his marriage. During his recovery through Alcoholics Anonymous, he meets a mysterious stranger who draws him back into a world of vice. In trying to help this beautiful woman, he must enter a crime-world of prostitution and drugs to solve a murder, while resisting the temptation to return to his alcohol abuse."
This post was deleted for the following reason: I know the internet video thing is a fuzzy line, but I feel like "here's the entirety of an Oliver Stone movie from '86" without some really compelling explanation for why is pushing into sort of weird space. -- cortex
I saw this in the theater when it came out. Great movie.

Jeff Bridges is the most underrated living American actor. They'll give him a Lifetime Achievement Oscar someday.
And I say this as someone indifferent to The Big Lebowski.

Based on the book by Lawrence Block. EMWTD is one of Block's many Matthew Scudder mysteries.

I have always loved Jeff Bridges. Even after he joined up with Michael McDonald and put out the worst CD known to man.

Uh, can someone explain this to me? Is there more going on here than a link to a movie on YouTube? Is it, like out of print or something? Or did something happen to Jeff Bridges?

Heh, if you hate watching it, you think the rights holders of that film are pleased about them mini-bits of their work on youtube? Just throwing it out there, kinda obviously infringing, this one.

Never released on DVD. At least not in the States.

Um, this is a playlist. And you can click the little button on the right and watch fullscreen you know. And even on my old computer the film looks fantastic. But don't let any of that get in the way of your bitchfest.
"Always wanted to know: are you named after the Count Vronsky?"
No, that was my rich uncle from my mother's side of the family, but sadly he was killed in a bizarre gardening accident late last year.

I remember this movie having a metric ton of swearing, so much so that it actually shocked me at the time.

Jeff Bridges is the most underrated living American actor.
This is not really a true statement. You would have to assume that he gets bad reviews and thus is 'underrated' or that he is a good actor who few have heard of thus 'underrated'. Neither of these situations are true.
The most underrated would be an actor very few have heard of. I know of few who haven't heard of or appreciated Jeff Bridges.
An actor such as Ben Gazzara might qualify as most underrated.

Also a major Jeff Bridges fan. I liked this movie too. (And really want to see Crazy Heart.) To our astonishment, we found ourselves within a couple of feet of him a few years back, though we were unfortunately huffing and puffing and overheated after racing for what seemed like miles to make a Houston to Paris flight connection . . . he was chatting with a first class flight attendant near the entrance to the plane, looking as surprisingly real as in his films.

He's in a lot of number movies. 8 Million Ways To Die, TR2N, Iron Man, which has a sequel called Iron Man 2. Tango & Cash. That one with Goldie Hawn. Romancing The Stone. Give it a rest, Bridges.
