Politically Tone-Deaf Scientists in the USA Government

Acronymic Self-Destruction Obama has failed his supporters on several epic levels. See: twelve months of documentation here and many elsewheres. However, in regards to reinstating hard science to a policy marker to a degree that the fundie Bush acolytes had dredged through the muck of dubious Biblical doctrine, it has been at least one of the hopeful marks of an enlightened new administration. However, the Obama administration has here chosen a dreadful acronym. Here, Obama' people have (thoughtlessly, I hope) dredged up the issue of stem cell research in an unrelated instance of scientific research.

They had a chance. WHY did they trigger an automatic reference to Stem-Cell research, an unambiguous reference to a universally hated procedure among most "born-again" Christians?
Is there an in-house self-destructive element among the Obama people? I do not understand this obviously anti-Obama meme planted by the Obama "fans" themselves.

I have spent years online without adhering to various tin-hat theories. Please don't make me join the conspiracy theorists.

STEM has been used to refer to these fields for far longer than Obama's folks have been using it.
