Washington Times Editorial: "More guns in law-abiding hands mean less crime. The District of Columbia proves the point." (Previously on metafilter)

Washington TIMES, founded in 1982 by Unification Church leader Sun Myung Moon, who's said that he's the Messiah and the Second Coming of Christ. Got it? Quit treating the ravings of lunatics like it deserves any attention; it's not news or intelligent commentary.

Washington Times is a neocon paper owned by a cultist. A two year dip in statistics in a very unusual part of the country does not "prove" anything.

Even though I fully agree with the content of the editorial, this really isn't a great post.

Canada has a low homicide rate and very strict gun laws.
That is my op-ed for the day.

Clever title and all, but I'm going to have to go with the room on this one: MeFi isn't the place where you post single links to editorials from major papers.

You have to admit that the existence of the Moonies is a strong argument for owning a gun.

FBI murder statistics: 83 murders in D.C. in 2008, 66 in 2009.
The FBI is a credible source, I think. And how many years does the dip have to last to be significant?

Gun Control is the only political issue than can be summed up with a bumper sticker (although too many are).
"If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." If guns were made illegal in America, that would only effect law abiding people, who are not likely to murder anyone anyway. Just like the criminalizing of drugs in no way removed drugs or drug addicts from the population.
