So, what is the resolution of life NOW?

Is our universe a hologram? Sounds ridiculous, but that's the theory of Craig Hogan, Director of the Center for Particle Astrophysics at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Accidental evidence from the GEO600 gravitational wave detector (seen previously on Metafilter) is tantalizing, yet still very inconclusive. But what would it mean if everything was a hologram?

From the New Scientist, one effect would be that the Plank length (sometimes considered the universe's ultimate resolution, other times merely considered damn tiny) would get "blurred" out to a conceivably measurable value - which is where the GEO600 comes in. Apparently at least the physics works "inside a hypothetical universe with five dimensions and shaped like a Pringle".

As for the other consequences to humanity? You mean, other than completely changing our fundamental understanding of how the universe works?

But what would it mean if everything was a hologram?

That Princess Leia, when "projected" from R2D2, was actually the real Leia?

floam: That now figured out: Sorry, this is a double.

Wow, my bad. Thought I checked... sorry.

"If a double was posted in a hologram, would it make a FPP?"
