Superintendent proposes to cut k-8 physical education. Do you care? Dr. Minot Cleveland states support for physical education in Oregonian article. Dr. Damien Fair discusses links between physical activity and brain development. Links between physical activity and academics references from CDC. Thoughtful article from Washington Post. If you live in PDX and/or support PE, consider contacting PPS School Board members.

Interesting topic, but it may be better served as a less local PDX issue.

My two bits: kids need to get out and get active, for health and for the mental well-being of students and teachers. Children aren't tiny adults, and they are less suited to sitting still for hours on end. Heck, even adults are better off with activity in their days, though it's more of a health issue than focusing at the task on hand issue.

When I was in school, physical education was a joke and a waste of time. I got plenty of exercise in those days -- none of it in phys. ed. class.

Portland Public Schools made me line dance in gym class, for three straight years. LINE DANCE. I say, shut the bastards down.
