Mefi's own asavage is scanned by the full body scanners at the airport but they still miss something pretty big.

I was hoping that the phrase "tiny junk" referred to a scale model of an ancient Chinese boat. That Adam was — for some reason that would become clear in the narrative — smuggling in his pants. Oh well.
