ethnocide

Effective January 1, Arizona bans ethnic studies, reason, and justice.
Whereas SB 1070 focused primarily on the ostensible control of bodies, HB 2281 is predominantly about controlling minds. In this sense, it is the software counterpart of Arizona's race-based politicking, paired with the hardware embodied in SB 1070's "show us your papers" logic of "attrition through enforcement" that has already resulted in tens of thousands of people leaving the state. With HB 2281, the intention is not so much to expel or harass as it is to inculcate a deep-seated second-class status by denying people the right to explore their own histories and cultures. It is, in effect, about the eradication of ethnic identity among young people in the state's already-floundering school system which now ranks near the bottom in the nation.

This post was deleted for the following reason: There's gotta be a better post to made than a huffpo editorial. -- cortex
There is a reason that SHPLs are the largely-ostracized members of the S_L family.

Here is the bill itself.
I found the HuffPo piece kind of hysterical, but yeah, this is some pretty vile shit, and probably unconstitutional. (I'm thinking equal protection, but am open to suggestions.)

1. "Arizona" is an anagram of "Or A Nazi"
2. The Arizona state flag combines all the best elements from the flags of Imperial Japan, Vietnam, and Armenia.
It's like they're actually trying to associate themselves with genocide.

WTF is wrong with this country all of a sudden? It's not like it's ever been even close to perfect but damn.

HB 2281 is also self-violating in that it promotes precisely what it claims to prohibit,
With policies like this, hypocrisy isn't a bug, it's a feature. It let's the people framing the debate pander to their anti-immigration base while hiding behind the rhetoric claiming to prohibit, ethnic chauvinism and "resentment toward a race or class of people."
It's complete bullshit. As long as they continue on this path, I hope they continue to lose population to more rational states.

Huffington Post articles tend to read like the person writing them was frothing at the mouth whilst mashing the keyboard. I can never really follow them.

Are there seriously a lot of public school classes in Arizona that currently "promote the overthrow of the united states government"? I'm guessing kids in Arizona get enough of that kind of talk at home from supporters of this bill.

Shh, this is a secret plan to turn Arizona into a Crazy Old White People reserve by 2012. Then we lock the door and loose the key.

Arizona's population grew by nearly 25% during the last decade, and it will gain a ninth seat in the House of Representatives as a result of the 2010 census. I'm not aware of any statistics indicating that Arizona has lost population since the census was completed.
