Somewhere on the spectrum between disturbing and cute

A video has been making the rounds of twin babies having a little conversation. Patton Oswalt and Michael Chiklis recreate the scene (mostly) detail for detail.

Bizarre. I get the impressiom this would be far less entertaining if it were two unfamous men in diapers.

My hope is that this is the one remaining artifact of our culture available to archeologists of the future trying to puzzle out who we were.

Really? Cause they didn't look familiar to me and I thought it was pretty funny.

Gah! I hate cliffhanger endings! Did they close the fridge door or not?!

ftr: this is NOT what Chiklis' agent meant when he suggested going "against type"

Well...now I've seen Michael Chiklis and Patton Oswald in diapers.

Really thought I'd be able to make it through life without that.

Really... *sigh* ...really did.

I really wish you had not drawn my attention to this.

This is a DOUBLE post.

Maybe you should post the Oswalt/Chiklis recreation in the still very-much open thread.

It used to be that a double post was posting the same thing, again.

Basically, it is -- as per the first hyperlink which references the twin video post from last week. But, hey, I'm not one to judge whether this FPP should stand or not. Let the mods decide.

I'll just throw an idea out there:

Baby Geniuses remake.

All adult cast.

I think this might be my new go-to shock video.

Oh my that was fun to watch. I love Patton and his cute little baby-body. And one sock. Love it.

My old roommates used to call Patton Oswald giantbabyman, so I will be forwarding this to them shortly.

If I haven't gotten this out of my brain by tomorrow morning, if I've not unseen it in a manner in which I have no memory of the last few minutes...if these things don't happen, I will hunt you down and you will not be happy, oh no, not happy at all...

Huh, I didn't see the link in the previous thread. I thought it was funny enough to warrant a new post, especially since that thread is 2 weeks off the front page. Sorry if I made extra work for the mods.

Hey, rule nazis: Meta comments don't belong in the thread.

I love the "Aw fuck it, I'll do it myself". It perfectly sums up so many of my conversations with co-workers which end up being nothing much more "da da da da" noise before I have a similar reaction.

Also accurate: me stealing their drink afterwards.

I just got back from a great trip throw Cambodia and Thailand - especially since I avoided any and all creepy sexual tourism stuff. Then I get treated to this video. Well, thanks MeFi, for making sure I get my RDA of Creepy.

Except for them not being identical. Or twins. Or even remotely similar looking.

I think Michael Chiklis is the first man in an adult diaper who I've seen and not be creeped out by. he's that good.

So, this is what actors are doing now.

That's funny, because I came to say how creeped out I am.

this parody is perfection in the execution even though i dont agree with their interpretation of the baby talk. but if anybody hands out oscars for web content, these two need to win it ASAP.

Their mimicry is astonishing. It's almost like they're having a real conversation.

Chiklis isn't putting enough question marks on the end of his das. It's like he doesn't understand his character's motivation at all.

Ah, many people get upset by Chiklis' interpretation of this role. Literal mimicry it is not. Instead, he is attempting to infuse the role with an heroic subtext--consider him perhaps as an ironic, Christ-like figure. The role has become the creation of Chiklis, rather than a character whom he is playing.

In the outtakes, baby Vic Mackey knees Oswalt in the groin, smashes his head to the ground, and holds a pistol to his head until he gives up the location of the missing sock.

Instead, he is attempting to infuse the role with an heroic subtext--consider him perhaps as an ironic, Christ-like figure.

The character is an inquisitor. The archetypical table-thumping, perp-wall-slamming Bad Cop. Notice that he's got his subject backed into a corner.

Perhaps you mean to suggest Chiklis is playing it in the vein of Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer? If so, I'm afraid he's missed his mark, and even if he were, it would undermine the essence of the scene.

And before you go on about "infusing the character with a realistic moral ambiguity," I must contend that Chiklis is adding nothing more than utter incongruity.

Oswalt, in stark contrast, proves, as always, eminently capable.

You know why this works? Because both actors are proportioned exactly like enormous babies. There must be some term for that oddly precise body-type.

I was hoping that they were going to evolve into actually having a word-based conversation with the same inflections, so that we could crack up at their discussion of Habs vs Leafs or foreign oil policies or Mom should be in a nursing home or something like that.

However, they really nailed the impersonation. I was just hoping for that discussion with words in the middle.

Like I said in my FB link - if you have never seen the film Even Dwarfs Started Small, it's pretty much the first half of this video.

I really needed this FPP, because somehow I wandered into watching the Oswalt/Chiklis video without having seen the twins vid and thought "Wow, this anti-comedy thing is going into hyperdrive!" Now that I understand the context it's not quite as funny, but at least I understand that I haven't missed some bizarre leap in comedic sensibilities.

Takes me back to my adolescent psychology days. This is normal, not just for twins but for all babies of a certain age. Infants react to other infants emotional cues and body language as if it was wired in them to do so.

The real tragedy of this video is that for someone, somewhere out there, this is porn.
