I'm sure we've all been wondering... "Hey, you 'gonna eat your shortbread cookies?" (Link taken from Bifurcated Rivets.)
Wow...I never thought I'd see a direct link on MeFi to an official United States Air Force website! If you're interested, you can check out the AF News site for daily press releases about other US Air Force news. AIRPOWER!

This is a good link, if only for one reason: I'm tired of that lame joke, "Haw haw! How're they gonna eat them food packs? They're in the desert! They don't have water!"
It's, MRE: Meal Ready to Eat. It's not Hamburger Helper or pancake mix. And anyway, you think they've been drinking sand before now? They may not have a Mississippi River, but they have water. Humans require it. Or are they not human?

Re: matches
Some of the MRE packs contain a heating element so that you can enjoy the warmed tuna loaf (seriously), which you can use the matches to start. For my money (and many of my military friends from way back in basic training), the PB is awesome on the hard crackers.
Of course, the matches may also be a throwback to WWII, when MREs included some smokes. "Smoke 'em if you got 'em!"

What are "matches (unprinted)"? No ads for truck-driving school on the cover?
