Billy Joel has now officially endorsed - The Longest Time (Coral Triangle Edition), by the Barber Lab Quartet
The Coral Triangle is one of the most threatened, yet understudied, ecosystems in the world. We are working to understand the processes creating and maintaining biological diversity in this region, while building the capacity of researchers and students to contribute to local conservation efforts. Terima kasih Pak Ngurah Mahardika dan Indonesia untuk menyambut kami!

Pretty much despise Billy Joel. Expected to not like this at all. Expectations were not met. Lyric reworking was absolutely brilliant. Marine biology gals totally fuckin rule. OK.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. All this, but...
Couldn't they have found somebody --- anybody! -- to sing bass?

The original just used a bass guitar, if they didn't want to get any dudes involved.

Billy Joel will never lack haters, but who else in 1984 could have an old-school (virtually) acappella doo-wop hit on the radio?
This is a swell adaptation:
"and I'll be doing lab-work for the lonnngest time..."

They could only find ill tempered mutant sea bass, guess they don't like to sing as much as trout do.

Billy Joel rocks for endorsing this, and I have never used the phrase "Billy Joel" and "rocks" in the same sentence without a negative before.

there was actually a fair amount of old-school sounding stuff on 80s radio. Honeydrippers and Stray Cats come quickly to mind. Like Mr. Joel's throwbacks, I had no time for them. Of course, I had little time for 80s-radio period (the commercial kind). Unless they were playing Prince.

I return to this thread, now favoriting Obscure Reference's comment after FOUR STRAIGHT DAYS of this playing interminably on my inner jukebox.
Blasdelb, at some point during your sojourn in Belgium I hope you visit Amsterdam, and we both attend the resulting meetup, where I will sing Abba's immortal classic "Money, Money, Money" at you incessantly.
