The iTunes article reminds me of an important lesson in computer work: always mount a scratch monkey.
badstone, check again. There's every indication that the first post is a newly reported version of the one in the jargon file. And Laura Creighton is certainly real, and I couldn't find anything where she disputed the story.

No actually, I think the swimming monkey is correct. That sounds more like what I recall in 1987.
