Jack Kirby Double-Page Spreads. A flickr set of double-splash-page spreads by the King of Comics.
In his combination of greatness and prolificity, Kirby always reminds me of Mozart.

As an aside, every line in this spread is pure gold.

Man, awesome. I do kind of wish they were in black and white, though. I like my Kirby stark.

If and when aliens land and attempt to take over the planet, I suspect my first reaction will be, "No molten black dots shifting about in a coruscating splash of mysterious cosmic energy? This is obviously a fake." Because in my head, all future realities are drawn by Jack Kirby.

I feel the same way about other end-of-the-world predictions. Armageddon? Pft. How can they really be super-human mystical beings if they're not wearing massive helmets encrusted with mysterious do-hickeys?

I like my Kirby stark.
Kirby stark makes you feel
He's the comix shark with the pen of steel
But Stan Lee a thesaurus chose
He writes and writes with purple prose

Nice, but you're only getting part of the total effect here. Kirby's typical approach was to start off the issue with a first-page full-page spread that was in itself the sort of striking, stunning image that most artists, past and present, would be happy to pull of once or twice in their careers, never mind every month, with the bold colors alternating with the heavy blacks and the semi-abstract shapes and the depth... and then you'd turn the page and BAM, the double-page spread would hit you between the eyes. It was the Kirby one-two punch, and even though you'd sort of expect it he'd still knock you over with it almost every time.

Anyone else disappointed by Argo's lack of crazy-ass Kirby art?

Maybe they'll license Kirby's art to use for the DVD packaging...
Also, if I could buy an device that would surround me with Kirby Dots all the time I would never turn the thing off.
Finally, there's a great homage to the King at the end of Supreme that has some double-page spread goodness.

I love the famous fight scene spread from OMAC #2.
Page 1: OMAC is denied entry to the CITY OF THE SUPER RICH
Page 2-3: double page spread of OMAC punching his way through a dozen guards
As with so much Kirby art, you may find that your facial expression comes to resemble that of the airborne guard in the top left. You are now freaking out.

And THAT is why you should read the thread properly before posting.
