Childish fun-poking sites

Childish fun-poking sites seem to be springing up everywhere, nowadays. From the looks of this site, and this site, and many others, is the internet continuing to open up as just another medium for people to make fun of eachother, more and more, everyday?

Aren't you compounding the problem by publicizing the sites?

Probably, but I'm not putting anything in favor or against them, I'm simply promoting discussion.

Personally, I find them somewhat amusing in that "this is soooooo wrong" way. I can laugh at my own misfortune, so I don't really see it as a bad thing to be able to find just about anything funny.

SomethingAwful isn't new: Record created on 16-Nov-1999, nor is FatChicksInPartyHats (Record created on 15-Nov-1999.)

Maybe check out Portal Of Evil.

I've been reading Somethingawful for years now.

Your post reminds me of desperate newsreporters trying to fake grassroots ownership of an issue.

How many times has SomethingAwful been linked here? (Yes, I could check, but I don't want to stress the server--let's just say "many"). And FatChicks too...what's next? Hey, has anyone heard of those women who put pictures of themselves on the web with little cameras? And I hear there may even be pictures of naked people!

On the other hand, I really like the idea of calling sites like this "fun-poking sites", or F/P for short.

SomethingAwful is just plain funny. im not really quite sure what im supposed to talk about tho. i dont think the internet is slowly breeding into a place where people make fun of one another. that goes on outside the internet. ever been to elementary school? junior high? high school? college? ever had a job? been to a church? a retirement home? someones funeral?

all these places are prime fun poking.

How the Hell did you confuse somethingawful.com with somethinghorrible.com? I mean, the logo is plastered all-along the top of the page... Regardless, it's an insignificant point.

Something Awful is an entertainment site. It's obviously not trying to be a news outlet, or a web portal. Rather, just a site where a couple of guys can publish whatever outlandish comments they want. I don't see the problem!

We've got shows that poke fun at movies, the news, and just about every other facet of society—including the people. (SNL anyone!?) Why is the fact that websites are joining in the fun anything other than expected?

Just think of Something Awful as the SNL of the Internet. (Except of course that SA is funny, SNL is a poor diseased animal that needs to be shot.)

The proliferation seems to be new to me.

And besides, the term troll is such a freakin relative term, it just sounds like another popularity contest to me.

Personally, I just had a thought and felt like making discussion. There really isn't that big of a distinction between discussion and flamewars, sometimes. It just depends on how many people think the argument is stupid.
