"I think that's the chicken costumed contestant from American Ninja Warrior"; so here we are, living in a world where those words in that order actually makes sense.

Is there a point at which an homage can surpass the original in a way that effectively makes it the new original, and the original becomes just a sad, hackneyed imitation? Because I think this might be just such a thing.

Yes, for instance the Johnny Cash cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt.

Awesomely done. Loved the crosshatched injury marks.
Calling shenanigans on the glasses though, in both clips. As a nearsighted guy who got in a lot of fights as a kid, they don't stay on like that.

The lone unrealistic element in this. Heh.
That was a great fight cover. Watching again in 3...2...1....

This was straight-up better directed than a lot of Hollywood action sequences these days.

Good action, too bad they ruined it in post.
The constant speed changes were the worst part. One thing is when they do it very obviously in the office sequence, 300ing it up, but they keep doing it all the time, speeding up punches and impact reactions, and it just looks bad.
And, well, the compositing and other effects are horrible, but that might be more on purpose to make it look cartoony.

Funny, that's my major complaint about 300 itself.

Yeah, the slow motion was completely gratuitous (and likely the reason that the remake is 2 1/2 times as long as the original.
Lots of fun, and the girls did a terrific job, but there's lots of room for improvement.

At the end, a thanks to their Indiegogo contributors. I am delighted to live in a world where craziness like this can find financial backing thanks to the Internet.
