Don't laugh, it'll only encourage her.

... oh, wait... no, go ahead and laugh. Encourage away!

If you took this video, and plopped Whoopi Goldberg into it....

Only one of those kids has what it takes to be in a great big broadway show.

On a totally unrelated note, I feel like if you have a little black girl in your class, it might be time to rethink whether "skin tone" tights remain a good costuming choice.

I felt a little hurt by this. I wasn't there, but it felt like we were supposed to laughing at a little girl. And I won't do that.

Somebody needed to pee, like, 30 minutes ago.

SPrintF, I was laughing, but felt torn over it too. Ultimately though, she looks like she's having a great time, and the audience laughter is just encouragement. The teacher, afterwards though, is going to have some hair-brained antics to deal with in class.

Or she had to pee. Another perfectly valid theory.

I can only speak to my own reaction, but if I was laughing, it was not in any sort of mocking way (and I kind of regret my comment above in the spirit of that), but only in a "What an adorable, precocious little girl joyfully hamming it up for the crowd (especially in contrast to her far more timid counterparts)"-kind of way.

Somebody needed to give that kid more moves to memorize cuz "baby needs to dance!"

If I was laughing, it was at the zombie girls who couldn't remember or engage with what they had learned to do.

They were just standing and swaying and occasionally flopping while lookin kind of confused.

And the. I realized that it was the energetic girl who knows what dance is about who is the pre-supposed spectacle here and now I'm mad at adults for stifling the creativity of children.

White people dance like this. Black people dance like this.

Joking, of course, but it illustrates that semi-racist joke too well!

Hell yeah, there are decades of that ahead!

I don't hang around kids, and I do feel this is all a bit mean "look at the dancing monkey*"

I don't she needs the toilet. I think she's all "fuck this choreography: I want to dance! ... And TAP! *jazz hands* *jazz feet*"
The other girls seem to be... sparse in their interpretations of dance, so it is hard to tell.

I have no idea who the parents are supposed to be filming, but if they're filming the one girl for her off-the-charts dancing and YouTubing it for the lulz (especially without permission), I find it nasty.

*Yes, I know, but I can't think of another animal that dances naturally)

That's not a semi racist joke - just racist.

I'm bewildered by the attention this video is getting. I kept waiting for these girls to pop out. That's just a normal dance recital! They're all like that! There's one hammy kid and one totally bewildered kid and the rest are doing their best.

Don't forget the kid who's trying to simultaneously get the hammy kid to cool it and remind the bewildered kid what the steps are.

For the record, I was always the bewildered kid.

Oo, I was that kid, bilabial! There's video of me ordering around all the other kids in the 2nd grade recital.
