Horses nuzzling cats

Horse delicately nuzzling a cat | more nuzzling |mini horse nuzzling | paw nuzzling | nibbly nuzzler [music ] | possessive, wet nuzzle.
My sister is a cat lady (17 cats currently) and a horse lover, so the first link will probably give her high sugar level.

I felt a strange sensation in my chest and moisture leaked from my eyesockets. Metafilter, am I dying?

I'm amazed that the impulse to skritch transcends species.

Nothing beats a good snorgle.
When I was small and we had two rescued raccoon kits I would wake up and rush to where they were sleeping so I could just bury my face in their fur. You could only do it when they were sleepy. They smelled wonderful and wild and I would be momentarily lost in soft, warm fur. Now I do it with my cats and it feels just the same. Clearly, these horses get it.

This post was made FOR ME! I will add some cats on horses (music on second link is.. alarming). And horse misinterprets cat's friendly overture.

No, my son, you are merely traveling to a better place. A place of gigantic muzzles that only occasionally nibble you.

This has been proven time after time to be not just a better place, but the best place.

I've always through there was something faintly equine about cats, and something faintly feline about horses. Maybe it's the cut of the cheekbones, or the galloping sound*, the aloof/schmoopy dichotomy, or the tendency to nuzzle.
(Also, Kitteh #2 is my Nellie's long-lost barncat twin.)
*My dear departed Ludmilla's nickname was Thunderhooves, for the noise she'd make galloping down the hall. Mom would say, "She's just like a tiny stallion!"

Look out, horse. You're about one pet away from getting your face clawed off.

Erasmouse, that kitten tickling the horse link, the first one and the horse's expression is such a fun vid!
The warning is well merited on your second link because the silly music is an earworm, which will wriggle its way into one's brain while watching the cat knead the horse's plumply squooshy back. The name of that children's song is Bamse's saga, full of Swedish sillibiz, including meatballs and lingonberries.

I'd think uncounted generations of not so great experiences with big cats might have given horses an innate fear of having any feline up on their backs.
So is the horse in Erasmouse's video having an out of body experience, enjoying a trip to a Haunted House, or what?

jamjam based on the faces he's making he's simultaneously being massaged and having itchy places scratched. Which is why he's putting up with what we humans would consider OMG CLAWS!!! Horsehide is thicker than our skin, particularly along their topline.
source: have had (many) horses. my old hunter used to make ecstatic faces like that when I skritched his shoulders and back, too.

And when you scratch behind the ears of the abyss long enough, the abyss also... well, actually, it just wants more. And it purrs.

Yeah, that's a horsey "Ooooooh right there, that's the spot" face. Someone should try one of those pokey-head-massager things on a horse.

A horsey 'ow that hurts' face is not so much a face as a, horse flying one way, kitten flying the other way whole situation.
