I got my fairshare of hits, but according to yet another online test I took once I am a "left-leaning libertarian"(whatever the hell that is) so I'd probably alienate hot chicks of any political stripe. Ah, The Lonely Libertarian(sounds like the title of a poilitacal soap-opera, dosen't it?)

Wouldn't a left leaning libertarian be a liberal?

Eh, kinda. Imagine a democrat with a jones for a free-market, or a republican who's pro-gay rights and smokes pot and you're somewhere in the neighborhood.

All I know is after taking the aformentioned test. I started getting catalogs from handgun companies and charities working on behalf of Randy Weaver.
Now I support the right to bear arms, and sympathise with Mr. Weaver's plight, but I'm not quite ready for pledge week with the local militia yet. Not to mention, all the mailings were addressed to "Donald Monelly" which is a rather bizarre mangling of my name. So be careful what tests you take, kids.

Scary -- I took the test just for kicks, and one of my matches was someone whose blog I've been reading for about a year. Hope his wife and my husband don't mind too much!

A libertarian is by definition liberal.

A libertarian is by definition liberal.

In the classical sense, yes. But many folks, myself included, prefer libertarianism to dissassociate ourselves from modern-day liberalisms more boneheaded manifestations.(identity politics, cradle-to-grave welfare, etc.) just as many old-style conservatives have moved to libertarianism to dissassociate from homophobia, racism, pro-life fanatics, etc.

I was somewhat irritated that Bertrand Russell isn't even among the influential people selections available. Fortunately there was a write in option.

What's a conservative intellectual? I see/hear "conservatives" slamming "intellectuals" as something dirty and "liberal" very often so it makes that statement seem contradictory.
