Native Americans and Independence Day

In the spirit of this post, about Frederick Douglass's classic speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?", what is Independence Day for the Native American? Some folks have powwows on this day and/or march in parades, proudly wearing the uniforms of the US Military. NPR's 2008 story on the topic is worthwhile.
Native Hawaiians were represented at last year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, which takes place during the weeks around July 4. For Hawaiian Participants, Independence Day is a Reminder of Ongoing Struggle A little over a century ago, on January 17, 1893, the Kingdom of Hawaii lost its independence to the USA.
