Comedian Bo Burnham has released a video of his song "Repeat Stuff," from his What album. (The complete What live performance is also available, with the hilite for me being "From God's Perspective.")

The timing required to pull off some of his live stuff is amazing to even contemplate.

Wish I could use up all the favorites I didn't spend favoriting other stuff on this (on this).

Repeat Stuff was pretty good. Doug Stanhope had a joke a few years back that ripped on pop songs in the same way. I haven't been able to find video of it, but he basically tells the punchline of his joke, then repeats the punchline 5 times, and says he's doing so to point out how fucking stupid pop songs are.

That being said, I love a good, dumb pop song from time to time.

Christ, I hate tiresome "takedowns" of pop music. If you're going to do it--and probably you shouldn't--at least make it well-produced and modestly clever (Brett Domino does a fair job of it because he seems to have a playful affection for the medium; Burnham doesn't appear to really understand what he's skewering).

Plus, his nasal voice is quite grating and he overr arrticulates his Rrrs.

Plus, your favorite comedian sucks.

That was a surprisingly enjoyable way to start my morning. And I'm always looking for better ways to articulate cultural criticism to my kids, whose hobbies occasionally veer into territory so banal that I don't know how to even approach a conversation about it without just sounding like a grumpy parent. This video has a comedy overlay on visuals about pandering to money, the devil, and poon. Yes, I'll start here, they'll enjoy this.
