Street-fighting 'roos. Irritable marsupials duke it out. Who will be crowned king of the cul-de-sac?

The objectively correct soundtrack to this video.

Also, kangaroos are terrifyingly jacked.

To be fair, the low blow fighting style of these sugarplum 'roos could be considered a nut cracking dance.

What's with that trailer full of giant sugar cubes?

In Australia, first you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the 'roos.

I was wondering if they were fighting over territory, which would a bit of a poisoned chalice in this location, but it seems they are fighting over access to estrous females according to Wikipedia.

the australian government conducted an online contest to come up with a restaurant name for kangaroo. i'm still unhappy with them for choosing "australus" over my "ambroosia". i was this close to a lifetime supply of roo meat.

I bet they're fighting over that ute.

On the left side of the screen (more prevalent on the extended play video) there is a small pickup, almost a modern version of the El Camino. Does anyone know what make and model it is? Almost looks like a Mercedes.

Ute.

It's probably a Holden Monaro ute, specifically.

Thanks Sys Rq. I would fight over that Ute myself.

I've always wondered what it would be like to have a third leg. Now I know.

Just what I was thinking, longdaysjourney. It'd be super useful when delivering a two-footed gut kick.

Do not taunt Happy Fun Roo.

Meh. Kung Roo is pretty, but it can't compare to the lethality of Roo Jitsu.

Thanks Sys Rq. I would fight over that Ute myself.

This weekend while driving, my wife asked what the point of a Subaru Baja was. My response was, "I'm not totally sure but I still want a Holden Ute." An El Camino with a nicer interior that does 140mph? It feels like the perfect New Hampshire vehicle (once you add the Terrorist Hunting Permit sticker and a US flag to communicate you aren't some foreign agitator).

Nature programs have told me that the kangaroo uses the tail as a third limb, but I've never really seen how strong it is before that video. They really are pentapods.

I fucking love the idea of calling cul-de-sacs poisoned chalices! BRILLIANT!

I'm kind of in awe of the ugliness of the street-- what I can see of the far-left house looks like a re-purposed 1980's Pizza Hut, and the one at center looks like a pretentious re-imaging of the house from "The Brady Bunch."

Newish housing estate, probably early to mid oughties. They spring up overnight where there used to be habitat for native animals, and are made with the cheapest possible materials by the most lazy possible builders and cookie-cutter architects. They basically start falling apart at about the 5 year mark, the commute is a nightmare, and there is no infrastructure other than roads and sterile 7-11 petrol stations. On the plus side, remarkably affordable, and if you don't have a stereo to call your own you can easily listen to music being played by your neighbours on all four sides. For a very particular class of bogan, as evidenced by the vehicles in the street (bogans like to have at least three cars each to park everywhere).

I'd guess all that gut-punching in a mating battle reflects the value of a tough, resilient pouch and abdomen for the joeys to any female offspring the winner might sire -- like the enduring appeal of six-packs among humans, perhaps.

There are no architects involved in those housing projects. Often designed by the builder and drawn up by a draftsperson with absolutely no engagement of brain.

But on the plus side, street-boxing kangaroos.

Oh god, I love the long video so much. So much kicking and third legging. Five minutes of them fighting down the street while a guy just stands around taping. This is why I wish I could go to Australia.

On a related note, the other day I was watching some penguin documentary and now I have to link to a penguin slap fight. Just look at how effective THAT is.

You think you guys invented crappy tract housing or something? This absolutely reinforces my perception that Oz is at least the third most American country in the world, though - you might beat Canada and hell you might beat the US.
