What is Daniel Pearl trying to tell us? (hint) The non-POW's at Guantanamo Bay have found their own special way of showing contempt for their captors.

nice find real9!

"They know they're being watched," he explains, "so they'll stare at you, and while they stare at you, they'll, uh, masturbate."

ah, the guiding hand of william kristol :)

The part about the essay I don't understand is the Red Cross workers hugging the prisoners. This seems....odd. I can't quite put my finger on it exactly..

"Finally, Sgt. Josh Westbrook, who sports a forearm tattoo of flaming baby heads, steps up."

God Bless America. What a badass.

Yeah, I thought that the hugging bit was a bit odd too. Where will it all lead? In a couple more monthes can we expect to hear about terrorists roasting Halal marshmallows around the campfire singing "Kumbaya", group-hugs, Al Qaeda circle-jerks? Eek!

Too bad that "pluck you" story is a huge crock of shit.

I loved the reference to the 'Euro-whiners'. I want more writing by this guy. He seems to be a dying breed of cynic in an overly AOL-ed, PC world.

Note to female guards: stare back, hold up your index finger and thumb about an inch apart, and laugh heartily.

The part about the essay I don't understand is when the author suggests he'd rather be a prisoner than a journalist.

Err, because the prisoners get better food, more room, and more privliges? Or because they get to masturbate in front of female soldiers?

It's tongue in cheek...

sudama, I think the writer was merely conceding the tactic of the operators of Guantanamo Bay; that it really is possible that the prisoners were being treated better than those who would volunteer to visit them.

Have any of the networks picked up on this AP "double bird" photo? In prior POW like situations the press has gone nuts pointing out how the subjects are resisting. Not this time. wierd.

To me, this is the best part:

In the most bizarre twist, Lance Corporal Devin Klebaur says a few have also been known to "put toothpaste in their ass." "What's the purpose?" I ask. "I'm not sure," he says, puzzled.

Is the "'advances of pay' in an amount 'never . . . inferior' to that which we pay our own armed forces" for real? I haven't seen this anywhere else.

There's a joke here about toothpaste, bums and cavities but it's just not coming out...
