It's time to say so long to legendary Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief Bo Dollis, who, for many years, led his Wild Magnolias through the streets of the Crescent City. Handa Wanda, Big Chief, Ho Na Nae and Jockomo Jockomo. Oops Upside Your Head
Personally, I'm pretty partial to the straight-up, percussion-and vocals-only Mardi Gras Indian chants, but these funk tracks with basses and guitars and such are pretty damn good, too...

RIP Big Chief Bo Dollis.

It wasn't until I watched Treme that I learned about the Mardi Gras Indians - such a cool subculture, and really fantastic music.

I knew vaguely about the Mardi Gras Indians but, as with ChuraChura above, it was Treme that finally brought them into sympathetic focus for me. I only watched Treme after visiting New Orleans last year. We stayed on the edge of the Treme without really understanding what was there.
