RIP Steve Strange lead singer of 80's synth pop band Visage and manager of the Blitz club a focal point for the New Romantic movement.
RIP. One the original "club kids." His stylistic innovations were groundbreaking.

I saw the reunited Visage in the mid-00s; let's say it wasn't their finest hour. The original recordings remain a classic, though.

One of my first CDs, in the early days of the format. I eventually sold all my non-punk cds in a big batch and then a week later went back to the record store and saw that one cd way up on the 'rare' shelf. Ah well.

And, of course, prominently featured in the Ashes to Ashes video by Bowie.

young me wasn't as cool enough to be as affected by this as I am; either way I'm suddenly feeling very mortal.

The Dancer has always been one of my favourite songs (besides "Fade to Grey", of course).
He was born almost exactly a year before I was. Makes a body think.

Re-listening to "Fade to Grey" put me in the mood for Vienna from Ultravox, which included former Visage members Midge Ure and Billy Currie.

Fade to Grey is excellent, but you really have to give it to 'em for one of the earliest, most alienated, and best aggro synth tracks ever.

I have never understood why Visage didn't have more hits than they did. "Fade to Grey" was so ahead of its time.

The Godley and Creme video for Mind Of A Toy may be Visage's greatest moment - 80s pop creepiness at its finest. (The Steve Strange puppet makes a brief reappearance towards the end of Fun Boy Three's The Telephone Always Rings video, among what Smash Hits would doubtless have called a veritable smorgasbord of 'famous at the time' faces...)
