That was so sweet and sad.

This was very nice; the public so rarely gets to hear Dave's side of the story. I don't think he gets near enough credit for influencing future generations of guitarists and he is a much better songwriter than he is usually given credit for-- if he was in any other band that didn't have Ray as the frontman and principal song writer, people would be talking about the immense talents of both Davies brothers almost co-equally. To draw a comparison to their British Invasion contemporaries, Dave is the George Harrison to Ray's Lennon-McCartney. Pretty damn good in his own right, yet always overshadowed by the guy next to him.

Huh, I had no idea that they stayed together as a band until the mid-nineties. I had thought that they'd broken up in the eighties.

Imaginations Real Dave played everything on that album.

They weren't very good the night I saw them (in June 1970), but I think a strong argument can be made that "You Really Got Me" – propelled by Dave's guitar – is the definitive 3-minute rock song of the 1960s.

Wait, there's a MUFF Winwood? That's incredible.

Muff Winwood produced a few seminal records including All The Young Dudes and Sultans of Swing.

Thanks for that, joseph conrad is fully awesome. The first concert I went to see was the Kinks, with the Pretenders opening. Being in 1981, I don't really remember it very clearly anymore, but both bands were great. I spent the end of last year being rather obsessed with the pure pop genius that is Shangri-La.

...the pure pop genius that is Shangri-La.

Thank you for suggesting that.
