Nothing on Splatoon? (Okay, that's just an excuse to mention Splatoon, which is terrific.)

I don't own a 3DS so I haven't been paying attention to Nintendo... but the Wii U is just a complete disaster, right? I know when it first came out there were cross platform games coming out for it, but I just realized I never see "Wii U" thrown in at the bottom of a big upcoming release these days.
No Batman Arkham Knight, no Witcher 3 for two recent blockbusters (or soon to be).
I had to google the Batman thing to be sure and an employee of Rocksteady even said it just can't handle it.
Pre-E3 musing.

Mario Bobsleigh HD actually sounds like it could be pretty fun. Make it a 4 player cooperative game that uses tilt control so all of the players have to coordinate their movements. They can bundle it with helmets with Wiimote holders so if people want to make fools of themselves by actually lining up and pretending they're in a bobsled they can. Everyone can play as their favorite Nintendo characters with Cool Runnings DLC coming Q1 2016.

I'd guess Splatoon could drive WiiU sales for a few quarters to come. It's that good.

Depends on your priorities. I've really enjoyed the first party games (no surprise for Nintendo), though I wish there were more, and that there were more third party games. And, it's a nice high-resolution Wii replacement for general party gaming. But yeah, it's not really the same market as the other big two consoles.
I had to google the Batman thing to be sure and an employee of Rocksteady even said it just can't handle it.
Given that the last Arkham game was released for Wii U, and it had horrible, game-breaking bugs (including a bug that could cause you to be stuck in a zone with no way out, and no way to revert to an earlier save), I'm pretty skeptical of anything Rocksteady says, since for all their claims about needing to "do it right", they basically threw up their hands and declared they didn't have time to fix any bugs for the Wii U version of the game. Kinda lost interest in restarting the game at that point (having lost 10 hours of progress to this bug).
They pretty much released a known-broken product, and sold it full retail price, with no intention of ever fixing it. So yeah, not really that interested in their opinions on the matter.

From one perspective, unquestionably. It probably won't nearly equal the sales of its predecessor, or its competitors. So, there you are.
But on the other hand, it's the only current-gen system I have any interest in owning. Most of the games I would want to play on Xbox One or PS4 will probably come to Steam eventually, which as a software store blows the offerings of all the major consoles out of the water.
It's got Hyrule Warriors, which is strangely fun even if it's largely grindy hack-and-slash. It's got Lego City Undercover. It's got Wind Waker HD, and Pikmin 3, and, yes, Splatoon, which I would compare with Team Fortress 2 both for fun and balance (I honestly suspect the devs studied TF2, at the very least the hat simulator aspects). And while it's not something I have a huge interest in, for other people there's Smash 4 too. And there's a hopefully game-changing Zelda on the horizon.
I wish other devs paid it more attention. But Call of Duty I can do without, and I've reached maximum superhero capacity so Batman games are not appealing to me right now. (And Citizens Of Earth looks charming, I plan on getting it eventually.)

I have no clue what's being announced at E3, but can I just say I'm really excited in the dorkiest way for Mario Maker coming out in September? It's the ultimate full-fledged 2D Mario level maker I dreamed of when I was a kid. I want to spend hours making Mario 3 / Mario World levels and playing through other people's.

I don't own a 3DS so I haven't been paying attention to Nintendo... but the Wii U is just a complete disaster, right?
Going by wikipedia, there were just under 10 million wii U's shipped by March 2015. There were about 10 million xbox ones shipped in nov of last year. There's about 20 million PS4's. At the bottom of the heap right now, but not nessecarily 'complete disaster' territory either.
As for why AAA titles aren't on Wii U, their console designs tend to break the mold a bit. The 3d screen on 3DS, the motion controls on Wii, and the game pad tablet thing on Wii U make it very difficult to just slap your PC game into Nintendo products. Their online support is also a challenge -- their desire to make 'family friendly' games conflicts with what one might generously call 'gamer culture,' and experiences are cut down to make online play less offensive.
Of course, Nintendo also has a launch title problem. Basically, their games are transparently last gen. Wii's best launch title, Zelda: Twilight Princess was literally released on both Gamecube and Wii simultaneously. Wii U's launch title, New Super Mario Bros. U is basically the same engine that was designed for the DS. It looks nice in HD, but it could have just as easily been a 3DS game. Only within the past year or so have the flagship games finally come out: Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros 4, and Splatoon. We're still waiting on a first Zelda, when technically both Gamecube and Wii got two Zelda games.

Ultimate Inevitable Archeology 3DS
Wii Dentist U
these job simulators are getting out of hand
Pokémon DecisionSuperior / Pokémon CanAware
Prequels to all previous series, which culminate in the rogue AI-triggered apocalyptic event that led to the rapid mutation or extinction of existing animal life into Pokemon, and excepting a few "leftovers" like bullet trains, reverted the world to an early 20th century tech level. Player character is an AI (named DecisionSuperior or CanAware) programmer/tester, and initially acquires "base" Pokemon that resemble real-life objects and animals, through the normal battle system. As the game progresses, the player encounters slightly more complex mons, with one or two traits modified (so that instead of encountering "dog", one might encounter "dog + fire"). These traits can be "reassigned" to other base Pokemon to unlock new ones (move "fire" onto "pony", etc.), kind of like a mashup with Avalon Code, with more powerful and complex combinations unlocked as one progresses.

I love the Wii U so very much. I think it's a shame that people slag on it without playing it, but that's video game culture for you. Actually the whole thing reminds me of the treatment the Dreamcast got when it was on the market, but don't get me started on that (it would be a one-sided conversation beginning with screaming and ending with rueful weeping).

I've been very happy with the Wii U. I'll probably pick up the new Kirby and Yoshi games eventually, maybe over the winter when I'll be indoors more. If Nintendo decided to shift all the upcoming Wii U games to whatever their next console is, I'd be pretty content with what I have to play on it right now. Cautiously optimistic for new Zelda; last one I played was Twilight Princess and it was not the best experience. Would be happy to see either a new F-Zero, or just GX on Virtual Console. Also would do Unspeakable Things for a port of Crystal Chronicles that worked with 3DSes.
Amiibo are still a racket.
Recommend whole-heartedly:
Pikmin 3
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Pushmo World
Mario Kart 8
Wii Fit U
Splatoon
Maybe more hit-or-miss for some folk:
Monster Hunter 3U (...a LOT of time)
Smash Bros Wii U
Bayonetta 1 and 2 (also subject matter/aesthetic issues here)
Wii Sports Club
NES Remix 1 and 2
And there's various Virtual Console and little eShop games.
