What's really important in our lives is not how we appear. Beauty will vanish, but what we have inside, it will never change.Welcome to the capital of ugly
If other people don't like my outward appearance, that's their problem, not mine.
Also, what the this club calls ugly, I think of as normal. But the club founders could be using hyperbole to highlight the cult of beauty.

I suspect my perception is inaccurate but -- it seems like there are all these Italian hill towns that are almost like uncontacted civilizations. They have some well-used cars but otherwise they're like a closed universe.
This can't be true, and in fact isn't true in this case, or how would I know about it. Still.

Reminds me of that Ted Chiang story about opting out of seeing physical beauty.
