Chuck Berry was born in 1926. Here he is performing Johnny B Goode: The date is April 14, 2014.
Seeing him perform in 2009 down the block from where I lived is one of the things that made attending Washington University in St. Louis totally worth it!

Can MetaFilter have a new rule? Every front page post about any human being who is older than 70 must be phrased in this way:
Chuck Berry, who is still alive by the way, was born in 1926. Here he is performing...
Because otherwise my heart skips a beat every time!

Man he's all over the place. I guess good on him for keeping on going, but it's like he's playing the song for the first time. He does ok with the intro but then he has no idea what to play. And he can't get to the melody of the vocal part at all.
That said - he is Chuck Berry and he can do what he likes.

Technically speaking, not correct, if you remember various items about secret cameras in women's bathrooms, etc.

My son is eleven years old and learning guitar. He's pretty good, and a few weeks ago he flippantly asked his teacher for this song. His teacher eyed him, shrugged, and started writing it down so they could play.
I think my son expected it to be easy because it was old and because we explained how it wasn't especially complex. But it really was hard for him to play, and he asked for "The Christmas Song" three lessons later when his teacher finally let him be done with the Berry tune. :7)
Still an awesome song.

I for one don't blame him for wanting to explore the possibilities of the form, after all these years

If you're still playing shows that sell out within about 20 minutes of tickets going on sale at 89, I guess you can critique his form.

You still get queues to go and look at Lenin's corpse but his oratory leaves a little to be desired.

YES HE IS OLD. You'll be old someday yourself -- if you're lucky -- and I hope people treat you with love and respect when it happens.

The mobile version of the wiki page on this song is either still up as an official gag, or has as of yet escaped detection.
