It looks like the reboot of Car Talk is going for a totally different demographic.

I was doubtful, waiting for the slide hammer to come out, but it looks like he handled that part OK.

I confess. I am so definitely guilty of making star ship noises when I have to use a weird tool I am not used to. Pew-Pew-Pew.

Metafilter: Dad won't let me use rotary cutting tools!

This is super cute, and I'm impressed. I wonder if he's mastered the difficult toys-back-where-they-go-at-night maneuver.

I like that occasionally you can see his mouth moves as he uses some self talk to keep himself on task.

I work at a preschool and we've been pounding gold tees into pumpkins on the playground this week (just for fun) and yesterday I stood behind a little boy who was aiming for a tee and saying quietly, "It doesn't hurt and there is not a animal that's living in there because when you open it its seeds and no animals." Self talk: good for mechanics, good for reminding yourself there aren't animals inside pumpkins.

It's official; a 5 year old is a much much better mechanic than I ever hope to be.

ugh bearings. I don't even like dealing with them on bicycles much less cars.

Dad-hood. You're doing it right.

I wonder if he can help me replace the bad ball joint on my car. I can do it myself, but I'm long past the point where working on my car is fun.

That's pretty cool, he's a good presenter.

Omg this is fantastic. I wonder if Phoenix and Dad can be persuaded to start a home improvement series along similar lines. I need an explain-it-to-me-like-I'm-five video covering how to replace a toilet valve.

Adept. Happy to see he got to the gloves eventually.

That's a heck of an attention span he's got there.

Holy crap!

This is why I don't whine much about labour charges when my car gets worked on.

My 4 year old helped me swap on the winter tires on one of our cars a couple weeks back. It went pretty similar to this, right down to the blond hair.

Reading level is also impressive for a five year old.
