Refering to himself in the third person, Jason uses the neutral pronoun "it", further reinforcing my impression that he is not a human after all, but some sort of alien from a planet where the native tongue is some subset of SGML.

I'd say, he's a private individual and people should leave him alone if he wants to be left alone. He's not "The Carl." He's Carl and he obviously wants to be left alone for a while.
