That quote from KSR is a great one to remember some days, as I watch the inanity of various parts of our socio-economic-political reality.

Really beautiful article.
And yet: we are still pulling bodies from the water wrapped in material which was meant to send us into space.

"Guns don't kill people; people kill people." As a bumper-sticker argument for unrestricted gun rights, it's not so convincing. But it's true, maybe even profound. People don't just aim guns and pull the trigger; we invent them, improve them, manufacture and sell them by the millions.
And a gun, after all, is essentially a one-cylinder internal combustion engine with a hole in it. But we had guns before cars, and nuclear bombs before power plants. ENIAC was built to help aim artillery shells, and GPS was originally a system for targeting ICBMs. We can beat our swords into plowshares, but we like to have a lot of swords first.
I'd march behind this flag, and hope it leads down a different path.

The Black Knight satellite thing sounds like something out of the SCP Foundation.

Those blankets are also commonly used as a sensory toy for babies (see reviews) - they love crinkling them.
