wow! The cards are pretty neat but the artist putting them in their cultural context is even cooler.

This is extremely cool, and, as vespabelle says, what the artist does with them is wonderful.
The Smithsonian NMNH Department of Anthropology has some pen and ink drawings in their old catalogue ledger books, particularly in the second half of the 19th century, but they are all small and in black and white. Some are pretty wonderful though. They have been scanned and attached to records in the artifact database, which is online. Here's a direct link to an example.

wish my government still had jobs for unemployed artists. Sigh
Don't give up hope. It found a job for a rich con-artist, which is a start. Could trickle down.
