Soo, this made me tear up on the way to work this morning, so y'all get to do so as well: a short comic about going back in time to talk to your younger self by Samantha Richardson, found via.

Why does Tumblr hate me so much? I can't expand the picture and there's always a bar across it.

Ugh, why is it I am always in the kitchen chopping onions when these posts show up?

That's amazing. I believe I can honestly say my life is better for having seen that.

So. Many. Onions.
Thank you for posting this. Also, what Ghidorah said.

This destroyed me. I can't imagine a more succinct solution to a previous ask of mine.

Mine would be: a lot more people like you than you think. Also, girls asking for your opinions on certain matters are actually asking a totally different question which, if you read between the lines, would materially alter the nature of your reply. E.g., "do you have a girlfriend?"

I'll probably come back to this now and again, when the pain of what I missed gets too strong. Because I wouldn't go back and transition earlier, even if I could. I am thankful to my younger self for the life I have, for the marriage I had, for my wonderful children. My younger self paid a high price for all that, not even knowing exactly what they were paying, or what for.
I almost wish I could go back and let them know that it was worth it. And sometimes I need to remind myself of that.

Oh I needed that today! That was great, and we can all do that for ourselves.

Yeah.
It's like that, isn't it?
So many years into a life as someone who is me and not me, with a kid who has issues of their own. I want to make it all better for them, but I can't always.
And I wish I could go back and tell my child self who didn't understand what the hell was going on that they were ok. They were valid. That it wasn't a delusion that they felt like their experience of life was really different from the people around them, and that it wasn't a failure on their part that it was really difficult.
But also that it doesn't make them not human. That their dreams and hopes and likes are valid even if no one they've ever met shares them. That loneliness is sad, but it isn't judgement.
That they weren't born sinful and fucked up. That no one else owns the idea of who they are. That we'll at least make it to our mid-40s. That even living as someone we're not, we'll still have great adventures.
That they can love.
That having a child is beautiful.
That there's no heart in struggling for what you don't want.
That life keeps passing no matter how tightly you grasp at it.
That fear of loss can ruin any joy.
That they're a girl, and that's better than anything they had ever hoped to be.

1. Wish I could do this IRL rn
2. Priorities re: still liking dinosaurs? A+
3. Little Me would probably want to know when we get married to Keanu Reeves like mommy and daddy want
4. My parents still want that and I still don't have an answer or a wedding date yet
Ty for this post, MartinWisse.
