They are all so uniquely into it. And the coordinated spin moves. So much fun going on.

They're having a friggin time.
I can't find it, but there's a good commentary by some producer/youtuber about trying to get orchestra strings to play on the beat, and how it's kinda impossible/wrong headed. The swell and decay of strings, especially en masse, don't work anything like the instrumentation of rock music. Maybe metal. ESPECIALLY not funk. It's a thing to work with. To quote David Berman, this is a little like 'a watercolor of a firetruck.'
But the band's killing it, like watching Baryshnikov smile and laugh while dancing on butter.

That's a lot of young cello players for any Alaska town. Music kids are so great.

Shucks I remember this too, but can't recall where I ran into it. The reverse is also true to some extent, but there are a lot more orchestras covering pop than funk bands covering Strauss or whatever.
Regardless, these people are clearly having a blast, and I'm glad someone bothered to do this.

I have always felt that Cellos in an orchestra never get to display the full magnificence of the instrument. This is Fantastic.

I didn't know I needed cello spins in my life, but I really did.

Why do they keep spinning their cellos?
I thought maybe it was an homage to something the original musicians did, like Antero's "magnetic bow trick", but I looked up the official Uptown Funk video and the musicians are entirely off-screen.
