Emoji Storm

I want to believe, but is it really? Firefox doesn't show any data being transferred after the initial page load. Please do show me the error of my ways, if I have them.

Chrome shows an event stream coming from:
Firefox's debugger doesn't show it as a constantly-open network connection like Chrome's does, but it's there.

The claim of every emoji in real time seems questionable, considering the volume of tweets generated daily vs the query limits imposed by Twitter's API. Somebody has to be doing that scraping somewhere, and Twitter doesn't make it easy or cheap.

I suppose we could all tweet a bunch of rare emojis (like 🤹, 🤽, 1️⃣, or 🕴️) and see if they show up

Okay, my comment above is misunderstood and the link is misleading. It looks like it's possible to stream realtime through the powertrack API, which includes an "emoji" property. So that covers the "easy" part, but this is only available to Enterprise access accounts, which still ain't cheap (they're implicitly more expensive than Premium access, which starts at $100/month)

Imagine a version of this where the emoji are arranged on a rough world map... Projected in Times Square.
I believe this is based on emojitracker, which has been around forever. IIRC they got a special dispensation to keep using the Twitter firehose feed after Twitter started shutting people out of it.
The implementation is on Observable, which means the Javascript code that implements it is right there running in your browser. You can even edit it and have it change live! Make it rain up instead of down or whatever. The code is very simple and readable if you're a programmer. The way the emojis are tracked is already unfurled (emojis = Generators.observe...). The drawing code is hidden; you can view it by clicking the three vertical dots to the left of the emoji display and selecting "Edit".

Is the rumor true that the next revision of JavaScript will begin replacing function calls with emoji in the code?

Someone needs to get this in front of Trump. I have visions of him spending all day tweeting emojis to see them drop down the screen of this site. Or, tweet-storming his anger when he doesn’t see his emojis fast enough.

Meh, they need to make it a big map that keeps near-in-codepoint emoji near each other and be bright and fade depending on frequency. Random rain and fade are unimpressive.

The year is 2032. I am listening to my granddaughter sing The Emoji Song she learned in grade school:

Grinning face, grinning big eyes, grinning smiling eyes,She has been singing for twelve minutes and I have no idea how much longer this is goes on.
Beaming smiling, grinning squinting, grinning face with sweat,
Rolling on the floor laughing, face with tears of joy...

I never bother even looking at emojis to try and figure out what they are, just ignore them.
