How About Restoring the Holy Roman Empire?

It is not as though it would be fundamentally impossible to restore the First Reich in terms of the modern European political map as the First Reich was itself a rather malleable. "Now, should all of this sound too frightfully Roman Catholic for Protestant monarchists, remember that at the end of the Holy Roman Empire the Protestants were a well established and accepted force within the empire and several of the Prince-Electors were Protestants, though in a rather odd turn of events one of those Protestant electors was a Catholic." The now defunct Mad Monarchist has interesting, in-depth views of democracy and the surprising almost history of the Galloway Plan.

"The colonial assemblies would appoint representatives to a parliament of their own which would be on equal terms with the parliament in London and would be presided over by a President-General appointed by the King. The American parliament would have jurisdiction over all domestic affairs, including taxation, but the parliaments in both Britain and America would each have veto power over what the other passed so that neither could impose any action detrimental to the other. The British Empire would thus become an Anglo-American partnership of a sort."

This post was deleted for the following reason: Upon further examination, this is feeling less like "enjoy a fun eccentric history nerd from the old internet" and more like ... what it expressly says, a wish for a violent overthrow of democracy with bonus side helping of white nationalism and colonialism was good... and that's not feeling like something we need to be throwing eyes to. -- LobsterMitten

"... that very vision, of western, European, Christian monarchies all in harmony, all pulling in the same direction with varying degrees of local autonomy terrifies the sort of rulers the world has today. Yes, powers such as France, Spain, Britain even largely Italy and so on were outside of it but the ideal was that they would all see themselves as being on the same team, this “team” known as Christendom, synonymous with “western civilization”. That is something worth considering, worth trying to work out, worth trying to strive for."

Leave it to the last paragraph for the author to stop dancing around the issue and just go full-out reactionary.

Go back to your ash-heap of history, kthxbye

I mean, elsewhere on the same site:

" You are advised that any and all republican governments, politicians and in particular revolutionaries will be mocked, ridiculed, insulted and unmasked for the truly disgusting characters that they are."

Yeah the guy is full on early web: really interesting, seems to know a lot about his subject matter and sort of little off his rockers. I love it.

I remember his schtick; it used to seem harmless. But now that I understand that this guy could domicile himself elsewhere in Texas and get elected to Congress on an express platform of establishing Trump as King Donald I, with Ivanka as heir apparent, it's less cute. The fash don't belong in polite company, no matter how well-read they are.

Also, what's "in-depth" about stating that people invariably vote according to race, or that they are therefore better off being ruled by balding nonentities?

Seriously. I am unaware of the Holy Roman Empire ever being called the "First Reich" before the Third one came along. Fascist apologia under the banner of Monarchism is still Fascist apologia. This guy can fuck right off into the sun.

Um...what? A brief reading of his other pieces show that this guy is a frothing-at-the-mouth white supremacist, pro-fascist, anti-immigrant, antisemitic, homophobic piece of shit. Among many other ahistorical bullshit that he peddles, he very clearly adheres to the pro-Confederate Lost Cause myth, and I wouldn't be surprised that--if he disapproved of slavery at all--that he thinks that the real problem with the American Civil War was that slaveowners were never compensated for their "loss."

Hmm, well I was playing as a cannibal pope in CK3 and didn't know what cadet branches were and this came up. I thought he was just an eccentric person who really, really wanted a return to late medieval monarchies. I didn't read his entire canon.

I came into this thread hoping it would be about CK3. It's still possible to save it by derailing it permanently in that direction.

There second to last paragraph contains a nasty QAnon-worthy anti-democratic conspiracy theory that I don't even want to quote here.
