Links only post for current events

Panic buttons were removed, and a suggestion for a links-required comment thread My suggestion (mods, is this alright?) is to have a current events post where all the comments have links to news. This would be more manageable for people who just want to keep up. Meanwhile, discussion would be at the gigantic thread. Links to twitter are only wanted if they link to news stories or accounts. Tweets which are just pithy phrasing should go in the other thread.

With a little luck, the comments will be a short enough thread that people can check for whether their link or its equivalent has already been posted.
