Sticky gel used to hold electrical connectors

When I was dismantling a 3d printer I found the gel in this picture spread over sockets anywhere a cable might vibrate out of its connector. It's very sticky and rubbery. It took some pulling but in the end it separated cleanly from the board surface. Any ideas what it is?
