Hey! Listen!

So apparently I missed Zelda Day? Never fear! I'll just play a quick, twinkly melody on my trusty ocarina (using only five notes!) and warp us all back to December 26 and attempt to provide a bit of
accompaniment to JHarris' excellent post.

The 8-bit Music Theory YouTube channel has appeared on Metafilter
previously, including the channel's very first video: an analysis of
the overworld themes of almost all Zelda games that had been published
at the time.
Since then the channel has revisited the Zelda franchise a number of
times. Examining Zelda II: The Adventure of Link as the
basis for A Framework of Basic Rhythmic Analysis; diving into the
subject of Motivic Development in Link's Awakening; or explaining How
Creative Limitations Shaped Ocarina of Time's Best Music (Note: same
video as above the fold.)
But, in my opinion, the crown jewel (uhx2026;triforce fragment?) of the
collection is the four part series analysing the music of Breath of
the Wild (#1 on IGN's Top 100 Video Game of All Time, let the
arguments begin!)

- Part 1: Hyrule Field
- Part 2: Main Theme
- Part 3: Kakariko Village
- In case you're also wondering, "Who the hell is Mark Brown?" Mark Brown is the voice behind Game Maker's Toolkit and has discussed many Zelda games (Playlist. Not all games discussed are Zelda games but the first bunch are.) In a bonus video on his channel from 2017, Brown steps a little outside of his usual wheelhouse and discusses the Breath of the Wild Soundtrack.
- Part 4: Hyrule Castle Theme

Hey! Listen!
Thank you for putting the time into this post. My kid loves Breath of the Wild -- and disdains his music class, thinking that it's irrelevant to his interests. But he is watching Part 1 with great focus!
