Fun stuff. I generally love the idea of April fools' day.
My mom got my as a kid by telling me her work office was making us move to rural Mississippi. (There are good people in rural Mississippi. The idea was horrifying to me a 12 year old.) I got a neighbor by replacing the soap in her bathroom with plastic while pet-sitting. I got my mentor with a plastic cabbage. I've still got a little disc that you can insert in the socket of an incandescent light-bulb to make it intermittently blink that I've been saving. I don't know anyone with incandescent light-bulbs anymore. But, someday, I'll use it.
I got my former high-school guidance councilor the year after I left by phoning him in an adult voice up and claiming to be a college admissions office person to ask about discrepancies between the student-submitted records and transcripts for me and my friends. The guy was shuffling through filing cabinets and making excuses in a panic. (I also filled his filing cabinet with peanuts and put salt in his coffee as a student.) I hope he recognized that I did it out of fondness. He was the adult high-school person I most related to and admired. I should probably write to him and mention that.
This year, I'm really not feeling it. The April fools joke here is that COVID-19 is no longer worth fighting. And that having Democrats in a position of power in the US makes any difference. I'm too tired to laugh. The post-parody world is exhausting.

The Scottish Deer Centre announces that it was able to capture a live haggis, previously thought extinct, and as The Guardian reports "is definitely not some sort of guinea pig wearing a wig."

For the astrophysics folk, here's a curated list of arxiv papers. Most seem dumb, but perhaps I'm just in a bad mood. "On the Possibility of Discovering Exoplanets within our Solar System" did make me giggle.

My kindergartener asked for a plate when she got home, then asked me if I wanted a brownie. I said "sure!" and she gave me a construction paper brown E. Best prank ever. Then we played it on her mom.

I have several Wordle variants I do most days, and some were fine today, but Flaggle had a Shrek flag and Squardl had 6 words with no A's,E's,I's,O's or U's.
I'm not big on April Fools, but I always loved the story of Sidd Finch.
My boss was so excited about it (well I was too, for a bit) until I said, 'did you see the part about an announcement "on or about April 1"?'
