It was early in the morning when I first ate toilet paper.

In this very strange NYTimes essay by actress Annie Hamilton she has a "terrible case of main character syndrome." This essay about "Leaving Los Angeles and how Hollywood isn't exactly the Hollywood you see in movies" sounds as if it was written by AI based on keywords. Is the future of American letters (GASP) some sort of incoherent namedropping stew?

Leaving Los Angeles, eating toilet paper, main character syndrome, Jonathan Franzen, Great American Novel, RAYA, Erewhon Market, Facetime, Psychics, Dexedrine, WhatsApp, The Hollywood Hills, High School Quarterback, Agatha Christie, Twitter, Target, Instagram, Ottessa Moshfegh, New York, LAX, Adderall, skaters.

Only if the future is the 80s.

I was born and raised in LA and go back 3 generations born there (that's a weirdly big deal in LA, especially for Jews, but anyway...), and we occasionally shopped at the original (well, there was only one then) erowhon bc my mom forced carob and tofu on us, but also that place was expensive. Until maybe....5 years ago, I really thought it was "nowhere" spelled backwards, and every time I think about it now I get irrationally angry all over again, but I'm not sure if it's at that damn store or at myself.

This went so far beyond the normal NYT "LA is a strange and vapid place" incoherent essay. Was this a test? A joke? Does she have some blackmail fodder on someone? They wrote this love letter to her in January and I am just so confused. I'm hoping that she'll leave LA out of... whatever this is... next time.

Didn't mention D**** S***** once, congratulations, Style section! I knew you could do it. Seriously, it's nice that my old friend Style is giving space to (apparently) regular influencers instead of "fascist-adjacent" influencers.

Wow, the framing of this post it super weird, much more so than the essay in my opinion

This is a really puzzling Blue post that sounds like it should be a pitch to another paper (The Cut?) if you want to critique the original essay. Am not sure how to place this post, since it also sounds similar to the original essay it is critiquing.
