Time Sync

CERN engineer Daniel Valuch discusses synchronizing a pendulum clock with the ALPHA Cesium Fountain Atomic Clock.
A friend had a Shortt–Synchronome operating in his office for a while. It's a bit like the Elektročas in the article, except its invar pendulum swings in an evacuated chamber. My friend may have operated an NTP time server conditioned from the Shortt-Synchronome just because he could.

A method of pressurizing, or pumping the clock case not very difficult to realize. The only problem is a possible acoustic nuisance produced by the pumps. And occasionally the clock may explode, or implode too.
Controller. I forgot the Arduino. So Bosch Rexroth profiles, Kapton tape and Arduino make modern science happen.
This is so fun! Thanks, zamboni.

Choice quote: Changing the 2, or π is difficult even for CERN. So we are left with g, and L.
Using the elevator to control g was amusing. I was expecting more snark about constants after that line.

Awesome! Had to send this to my dad who was talking about repairing an old pendulum-clock in the family.
